While this was just a throwaway flip by @erinbrookssurf as she was finishing off her wave, the fact that I’m actually using the word “flip” in a caption still blows my mind. I haven’t been able to write that word since the backside attempts by @alessaquizon a decade ago. As someone who probably has a hundred thousand or so photos of cutbacks and off the-lips on two dozen hard drives, a maneuver like this really grabs your attention and is yet another example of what makes the future of women’s surfing so exciting.

Woke up this morning and realized JettyGirl just turned 17 on New Year’s Day. This project continues to bless my heart and it’s an honor that so many people have given me the opportunity to follow them around with a camera at various points over the years. Kicking off the new year with a photo of @derp.dar on an icy morning, braving the cold for a maternity surf shoot a few months back (I was swimming in a 6/3 🥶). She’s since given birth and I can’t wait to shoot photos of her shredding with her little one sometime in the future. Thank you to Darlene and to everyone who supports @jettygirlsurfmag !
