Once in a while, I’ll get my water housing together and just swim out to a random lineup, never knowing what to expect or who might be out surfing. Yesterday was such a day and after floating around in meager, onshore surf for twenty minutes, a friendly face paddled into the lineup. Although she rode standard shortboards into finals at Bells and the US Open as well as a victory at Margaret River back in the day, she’s been a dedicated fan of these little @surfboardsbydonaldtakayama quads for the past two decades I’ve known her. After losing a fin years ago and not being able to find a replacement, she’s even been riding these boards with fins of different sizes since, essentially adding an asymmetrical element to her ride. After standing in the lot talking story for three hours after our surf, I’m crazy sunburned but my heart is full.
